About the event
Two thousand years of melody in a single evening. The Registan Symphony Orchestra and conductor Timur Alimardonov follow the Great Silk Road from the courtyards of Samarkand and Bukhara to the harbours of Venice, weaving rubab, doira and dutar into the full sound of a symphony orchestra.
At the heart of the programme is rubab soloist Malika Sobirova with the premiere of “Caravan”, a concerto written for her. Around it: symphonic suites on maqom themes, Borodin’s “In the Steppes of Central Asia” and movements from Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade”.
The concert runs about two and a half hours with one intermission. Doors open an hour before the start; please take your seats before the third bell.
